Avalanche Dogs
Last week, Tahoe Beach Club invited Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Patrol Director Shannon Maguire to discuss the ins and outs of the avalanche dog rescue program. Shannon and her team shared their incredible story and the process of rebuilding Sierra-at-Tahoe post Caldor fire. Members were thrilled to meet the patrol team and, best of all, their life-saving K9 companions.
Shannon began by sharing their team's efforts to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Caldor. Unfortunately, Sierra-at-Tahoe suffered significant damage during the fire, and many structures had to be rebuilt from the ground up. But that didn't stop the Sierra team from putting their hearts into reconstructing every inch. Since Caldor, the crew has repaired the resort to near-perfect condition, and guests are now welcome to return to the slopes.
With Sierra-at-Tahoe's grand reopening comes extra safety efforts from the entire ski patrol team. Luckily, avalanche dogs are the perfect companions for search and rescue efforts. Shannon shared how each dog significantly reduces the time it takes to find skiers in danger, covering acres of land in mere minutes.
When all was said and done, Members showed their appreciation with generous donations to the program. We are so grateful to the Sierra-at-Tahoe team for joining us, and we are excited to hit the slopes with safety at top of mind.
